Lead-Acid Bateries

Lead-Acid Bateries
What It Is: Lead-acid bateries are rechargeable bateries that use lead dioxide and sponge lead as electrodes and sulfuric acid as the electrolyte. They are known for their reliability and ability to deliver high surge currents.
Examples: Commonly found in automobiles, motorcycles, and backup power systems. Examples include starting, lighting, and ignition (SLI) bateries and deep cycle bateries used in renewable energy systems.
How It’s Used: Lead-acid bateries are widely used for starting engines and providing power to electrical systems in vehicles. During recycling, lead and sulfuric acid are recovered, with lead being repurposed for new bateries and sulfuric acid neutralized for safe disposal, minimizing
environmental impact and reducing the need for raw materials.
